Mighty Mike Schermer
Tuesday, November 21st • 7:30pm & 9:30pm • $20

Music lovers are in for a real treat Wed. Sept 30 when triple threat guitarist, singer and songwriter Mighty Mike Schermer brings his all-star band and his latest batch of original tunes to Biscuits and Blues for an exclusive Bay Area CD release party. Schermer's stinging Telecaster guitar sound is reminiscent of his hero Albert Collins, but like all modern blues greats it also incorporates elements of T-Bone Walker and the three Kings; B.B., Albert and Freddie. His voice has been described as "Levon Helm with a touch of Ray Charles" while his songs bring in elements of R&B, Soul, Rock and Roll and even a touch of reggae...all the while remaining true to the spirit and the sound of the blues. Mighty Mike's live shows are always fun, lively, and energetic. This is honest music delivered honestly by a master craftsman and his top notch band.

Schermer brings this same honest and energetic approach to his latest CD. One listen and you'll agree...the blues are in good hands.

Mighty Mike Schermer was a fixture on the Bay Area blues scene for over 20 years. In that time he not only carved out a solid solo career…with 5 critically acclaimed albums and numerous festival performances…but he was also the “go to guy” sideman for such great artists as Bonnie Raitt, Elvin Bishop, Charlie Musselwhite, Howard Tate, Angela Strehli, Maria Muldaur, Sista Monica and many more. Schermer’s 2007 release Next Set established him as one of the genres foremost songwriters, selling well on the strength of his autobiographical hit My Big Sister’s Radio. In 2009 Schermer packed up his trusty Fender Telecaster and moved to Austin TX. When not performing 150 dates per year and recording two Grammy nominated CDs withMarcia Ball, Mighty Mike has been swapping licks with Austin’s best. Already a force to be reckoned with, Schermer’s talent and reputation have only increased since digging into the trenches of the Live Music Capital of the World.

In 2013 Schermer released his 5th album, Be Somebody, which ran straight up the blues radio charts. It was the most played record on XM/Sirius Radio’s Bluesville that year and is still in heavy rotation. While still a bluesman to the bone, his varied influences and history have helped shape him into a truly unique artist. Vintage vibe, tasteful guitar playing and a natural, unforced vocal delivery come together via one all-important element that is so often missing in modern blues and R&B recordings...great original songs.

"Just hook after hook after hook...one of the best living songwriters in the genre"

Bill Wax - XM/Sirius Radio

“…equally at ease with hard-ass blues or the spare necessities of vintage soul, Schermer steps forward with clever tunes, sturdy vocals and loads of great guitar!”

Charlie Lange - Bluebeat Music

“...probably the best blues guitarist, singer and songwriter you’ve never heard of…and probably not for long!” - Tommy Castro

“Funky and authentic!” - Bonnie Raitt
