Chris Cain’s Heartfelt Message in ‘Blues for my Dad’

A look into Chris Cains latest release

On August 19th, Alligator Records artist Chris Cain  premiered the new video for his song, Blues For My Dad. It’s in tribute to his dad, and is sure to make you call your own dad just to check in on him. I sure did right after listening.

Below are just a few of the lyrics:

“You can play it when you’re happy

You can play it when you’re feeling sad

Always remember to play a little blues For your dad”

The little brown guitar and I soon became the best of friends

And together we traveled a road full of many twists and bends

He’s been gone for so many years now; I think about him every day

And I’ve got a band of my own ‘Cause Papa sent me on my way

This song almost reminds me of some other similar classic’s, like John Mayers ‘Stop this Train’ or ‘Grandma’s Hands’ by Bill Withers. All of them hold such a powerful heartfelt message and really make us stop and think about everyone and everything that has helped us get to where we are today. If they are still around, definitely give them a call! Check in on them.

"I heard one verse of Blues For My Dad and got lumps in my throat and hair standing up on my arms, while the master, Chris Cain, got all bashful and tried to write it off as just an experiment”-said Anderson. Cain's labelmate, blues-rocker Tommy Castro, agrees this song is intense and touching, saying, "I'm crying like a baby over here. Everything about this is great. Everyone with a heartbeat will love this song.”Playing on this song are Cain on lead guitar and vocals, Andersen on nylon string guitar, upright bass, organ and percussion and June Core on bongos.

Watch and share the new video here:

The song is from Cain's celebrated new release, GOOD INTENTIONS GONE BAD. The new album finds Cain operating at the absolute peak of his powers, with producer/studio whiz/multi-instrumentalist/video producer (and guitarist for Rick Estrin & The Nightcats), Christoffer "Kid" Andersen pushing him to new heights every step of the way.

Chris Cain is coming to Biscuits and Blues on Wednesday, September 11th! Link here: https://www.biscuitsandblues.com/find-a-show/chriscainsep11

P.S.

When Chris Cain sang the lyrics:

“Some days we play for thousands of people

Sometimes we play for the tables and chairs”

A clip of him playing here at Biscuits is showed in the music video! Definitely fitting lyrics lately as we’re reopening post pandemic LOL
