Harvey “The Snake” Mandel is a trailblazing American guitarist celebrated for his innovative techniques and influential contributions to blues, rock, and jazz fusion. Known for his fluid, slithering style and early use of two-handed tapping, sustain, and controlled feedback, Mandel earned his nickname from harmonica great Charlie Musselwhite—an early collaborator in the Chicago blues scene.

Mandel gained national recognition as a member of Canned Heat, performing with them at Woodstock in 1969, and later joined John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers alongside other legendary guitarists. He was also invited to record with The Rolling Stones, contributing standout solos to tracks on their Black and Blue album.

As a solo artist, Mandel has released a string of critically acclaimed albums, including Cristo Redentor, Baby Batter, and The Snake, blending blues roots with psychedelic rock and jazz-fusion elements. Decades into his career, Mandel continues to perform and record, remaining a revered figure among guitarists and a true innovator in modern electric blues.
